Real talk: essential fatty acids & omegas explained

We’ve all heard the words β€œessential fatty acids” (EFAs) and β€œomegas” thrown around on the labels and websites of your favourite beauty brands. But what exactly are they? And what do they do?

Let us give you the low down in simple terms that both you and I will remember forever.

There are 11 omega fatty acids in total, and they are each unique in how they affect our bodies, with 3 in particular that are vital for our health – the omegas 3, 6, and 9. Our bodies can’t naturally produce these fatty acids and we have to eat and apply them to reap their abundant benefits. When we eat them, they support our cardiovascular, reproductive, immune and nervous systems – oh-mey-gawd! We need them to assist in the repair of cell membranes for optimum functioning, and they are essential in regulating our heart rate, blood pressure, and fertility, while working hard to reduce inflammation and improving blood circulation. Even helping with rheumatoid arthritis and cancer treatment.Β

Talk about powerhouses, ammirite?

But what can they do for the skin? Because, let’s be real – that’s what we’re here for. They are a vital component of our epidermal (outer layer of skin) – helping to regulate oil production, maintaining hydration, actually repairing and reversing skin damage (amazing), promoting the regeneration of healthy skin cells, protecting us from the sun and UV rays, protecting the skin from pollution, and preventing the release of enzymes that break down collagen. They are anti-inflammatory, aid in skin’s natural exfoliation abilities and an absolute skin-saver for sensitive skin (think rosacea, psoriasis, eczema AND acne)… as well as just about everyone else.

Sounds pretty essential right? Living up to their name! We absolutely love the properties that these EFAs bring to our skincare, and best of all they come straight from Mama Nature herself – so we just know they are meant to be eaten and lathered all over us.

The easiest way of getting these omegas in your skincare routine? Skincare oils! And that’s why we made our truly beautifulΒ Miracle OilΒ Β Groovy Baby Body OilΒ  and our oil based moisturiser –Β The Cream.Β  In fact, come to think of it, every single one of our products contains oils rich in these EFAs. Go catch your zzz’s soundly knowing that you’re doing the very best for your skin using any of our range.Β
